Social Media Workshop & Portfolio Presentation at Platt College
Platt College students who were eager to learn about the world of social media joined us last weekend for an introductory workshop hosted by Ironton Global, Marketing Director, Michael Foltzer. Social media is everywhere these days and more companies are looking for students with more than just design skills, but also a strong knowledge of the social media world. From Facebook to Pinterest there are so many different options out there it can be tough to learn where to start.
Some of the topics introduced to our digital media design students included how to perform an analysis of competing brands and companies. This is useful when first starting out in social media so you can learn who your demographic audience may be as well of the type of content they are interacting with.
Another topic that was discussed was the popularity of infographics in the social media sphere these days. Infographics are a useful tool in marketing your brand as you can show statistics and information in a more appealing and visual way.
For the last segment of the training students were asked to come up with a contest idea for a brand of their choice. Using the contest as a social media tool to encourage more interaction with their social media sites and brand as a whole. One great example a student came up with was for a salon to host a contest asking for customers to submit photos of themselves with their worst bed head to win a free shampoo and haircut.
To end the workshop our guest speaker briefly talked with students about the importance of having a solid portfolio when they are looking for jobs. He also showcased examples of interesting designed resumes that match with a certain visual aesthetic.
Social media is an always growing and changing industry so this was a great way for students who were unfamiliar with it to expand their knowledge. If you were unable to attend this workshop but would like to learn more, be sure to follow us on our many social media outlets.
