Financial Aid
Platt College San Diego participates under the Federal Student Aid and State programs. The Financial Aid Department is eager to assist you with any questions you may have while exploring your eligibility for grants and loans.
Federal Pell Grant
Financial aid that does not have to be repaid. The Federal Pell Grant is awarded to undergraduate students – those who haven’t earned a bachelor’s degree.
Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
FSEOG is awarded to students with the highest need; Federal Pell Grant recipients take priority; funds depend on availability at school.
William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan)
Direct Loans are loans that are funded and owned by the U.S. Department of Education through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program and these loans must be paid back.
- Direct Subsidized Loans are extended based on financial need to undergraduate students. They provide an interest subsidy that pays for all interest assessed and charged while the student is enrolled in school or the loan is otherwise deferred.
- Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. This loan’s interest rate is lower for undergraduates than for graduate and professional students, however. As its name suggests, Direct Unsubsidized Loans do not have an interest subsidy. Interest is assessed on this unsubsidized debt starting with disbursement and capitalized (added to the balance) once the deferment ends.
- Direct PLUS Loans are extended to graduate and professional students, as well as parents of undergraduate students. Borrowers must also not have an adverse credit history to be eligible for PLUS Loans.
Federal Work-Study (FWS)
Allows the student to work part-time and earn money while attending school; does not have to be repaid back.
Disbursing Federal Aid
- Platt College has a rolling start date calendar that consists of start and end dates every five weeks. This calendar is used to determine a student’s academic award year.
- First time Federal Aid recipient funds will be disbursed once a minimum of 30 days has elapsed from the student’s start date.
- Subsequent Federal Aid is disbursed in accordance with the student’s academic award year period.

Cal Grant
The Cal Grant is a California-specific financial aid allocation that does not need to be paid back. Cal Grant applicants must apply using the FAFSA by the deadline and meet all eligibility, financial, and minimum GPA requirements of either program. Grants are for students attending Universities of California, California State Universities or California Community Colleges, or qualifying independent and career colleges or technical schools in California.
There are three kinds of Cal Grants — A, B and C — but you don’t have to figure out which one to apply for. Your eligibility will be based on your FAFSA Application responses, your verified Cal Grant GPA, the type of California colleges you list on your application and whether you’re a recent high school graduate.
Cal Grant Disbursements
Cal Grants are awarded and disbursed in 3 payments, which are credited to the student’s account:
Fall Term | 8-15 to 12-14 |
Winter Term | 12-15 to 12-14 |
Spring Term | 4-15 to 8-14 |
A student must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress in order for Cal Grant funds to be disbursed. Disbursement amount varies and is determined by the number of units a student is enrolled in during the corresponding term dates. For further details regarding the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy, see page 9 in our school catalog.
Platt College has a rolling start date calendar that consists of start and end dates every five weeks. This calendar is used to determine the number of units a student is enrolled in before payment is applied.
Tuition payments are credited directly towards tuition expenses and may not exceed tuition amount. Stipends may be paid directly to the students.

How to Apply for Financial Aid
Platt College San Diego’s FAFSA school code: 015180
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the basic application for all federal student aid and some forms of state aid. The FAFSA can be completed online or by mail and should be done as early as possible each year. Before accessing the FAFSA online, the student must first obtain an FSA ID from the U.S. Department of Education. This FSA ID will allow the student to access their data and sign several documents electronically. The FAFSA application data is confidentially submitted to the U.S. Department of Education and they determine the student’s Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) based on a federal formula. The College and the student will receive the EFC information. The College uses the EFC to determine financial aid awards. It is important that the student provide accurate information on the FAFSA application as correcting inaccurate information is timely and may impact the student’s funding. Students and parents can contact the Financial Aid Office located on campus for answers to questions regarding financial aid.
The Net Price Calculator is a tool to assist students in estimating their educational cost. The Net Price Calculator will provide an estimate based on the information you provide and does not guarantee estimated awards. To obtain an official financial aid package, you will need to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The financial aid office uses the official FAFSA to determine financial aid awards.
Private Loans
A student may apply to a private lender for a loan to cover education expenses not covered by other program funds. These loans are generally subject to a credit check and a co-signer may be required. Interest rates on these types of loans may vary and be higher than the rates charged for the Stafford and PLUS Loan Programs. Contact the individual lenders for more details.
Code of Conduct for Education Loans
Platt College San Diego is a member of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA). The College has adopted the use of NASFAA’s Statement of Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for Institutional Financial Aid Professionals. Copies of the Statement of Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct are available from the Financial Aid Office upon request.
