Platt Pet Week was something we celebrated the first week of August this year. However, what was meant to be a one week celebration, ultimately turned into a celebration for the whole month of August. We kicked it off with our friend Vedder the Dog and his mom, Platt Alumni Rhiannon Mish visiting the campus to help us film a fun campus tour.
To film this video we strapped a GoPro harness to Vedder’s back and brought him around to all of our classrooms and let him run around our courtyard. Watching the video, you can definitely see his excitement while running around the campus. It was also a nice way to brighten up everyone’s day with an adorable visitor!
The following week we decided to take an opportunity for our students, staff and alumni to share photos of their pets as part of our Platt Pet Week contest! We asked everyone who wanted to be part of the contest to submit a photo via Instagram using the hashtag #plattpets to be entered into the drawing.
All week we have been celebrating the furry companions that we are happy to have as part of our family. We have been…

The submissions came pouring in and thankfully we chose winners at random, because it would have been way too difficult to just pick the cutest of the bunch! Below is our announcement of the 3 winning submissions. First place took home a gift card to Petco so that they could spoil their pet as well as 2 free tickets to the San Diego premiere of Cosplay Dreams 3D. The 2 runners up received free tickets as well!
But wait! There’s more! During the Platt Pet Week celebration we also hosted a drive for the San Diego Humane Society. For the drive we were given a list of tangible items that the humane society needed to help care for the pets and asked students and staff to donate what they could to help pets who were still waiting for their forever homes.
Thanks to everyone’s generous donations, we were able to bring them 4 large boxes filled with food, toys and office supplies to help their efforts. Two of our staff members and alumni, Natasha Englehardt and Stacy Davis, brought the boxes to them the last month of August and were given a tour of the facilities where our donations would be put to use.
We were inspired to donate to the San Diego Humane Society because of all the amazing work they have been doing for the local community. They have several wonderful programs to help homeless pets like their kitten nursery, which helps abandoned kittens survive if they are found without their mothers. They also have a 0% euthanization rate for healthy, treatable or rehabilitatable animals.
If you’re looking to help the San Diego Humane Society with their efforts be sure to stop by their facilities or visit their website for more information on how you can help the animals and your local community. Special thanks to Bobbie and Kerrie at the Humane Society for giving us a tour and sharing with us all the wonderful things you continue to do to help these sweet animals!
