Digital Imaging Specialist
Digital Imaging Specialists are also known as Modern Day Darkroom Assistants. These individuals know how to correct color balance, set shadows, and “clean-up” an image at the professional photographic level within the digital environment. Digital Imaging Specialists are often required to know a great deal about cameras, scanners, and other digital photography equipment. They should also possess digital illustration skills, creative problem solving skills, and an acute eye for color, tonal levels, and graphic composition. Working knowledge of Photography, studio lighting and grip work is highly beneficial. Strong Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop Skills are usually imperative.

Logos should also be built so that they can be saved in several different file formats and manipulated easily. A solid Logo Design communicates a company identity – simply, clearly, powerfully. A good logo designer should be detailed-oriented, flexible, have strong design, illustration and creative problem solving skills.
Marketing Managers are responsible for conducting and evaluating market research for a product or service. Reports are usually then generated and prepared for presentation. Marketing managers are usually in charge of designing, writing, and overseeing the production of printed promotional materials including catalogs, brochures, flyers, and program and media guides. Negotiating with vendors and contractors to coordinate media costs, placement, and scheduling can often be a part of a Marketing Manager’s job requirements. They are also often in charge of developing advertising campaigns for various media; may design layouts and prepare copy.

New Media Specialist
New media specialists often create graphic effects that enrich multimedia products, including narration, 3D animation, sound effects and progress reporting. Expert knowledge in Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Flash and Dreamweaver is usually required. An ability to produce for various media channels such as web, print, and multimedia is beneficial. New Media Specialists should also have a great understanding of html, dynamic html, and Actionscript.
Packaging Designers create effective packaging which promotes brand integrity and helps ensure premium product positioning in the marketplace. They must have a strong understanding of package-oriented production and printing processes. They are often required to have keen presentation and managerial skills and should be familiar with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
Prepress specialists are able to verify the preparedness of a document before going to a vendor for printing. Includes checking colors, gathering fonts, color finishes, as well as other print industry foundations.
Production Artists must be highly organized and able to work efficiently on multiple projects to meet tight deadlines. They need to implement quick revisions to match a client’s, Art Director’s or Senior Designer’s requests. Print-oriented Production Artists are often required to have software training in QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. Experience proofing, preflighting, preparing and press checking files are also extremely beneficial for print Production Artists. Multimedia and Web savvy Production Artists should have extensive knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Image Ready and Flash. They should be familiar with image compression, file correction, and optimization techniques.
Production Coordinators provide logistical support to production department. Duties may include tracking and scheduling projects; filing summary reports; archiving and pre-flight formatting of collateral; and invoice management. Requires strong organizational skills and keen eye for detail, as well as knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or Freehand and project management software.
Production Directors oversee production within an advertising agency or company. Duties include those listed for Production Managers, but require more work experience for each function. Manages staff and systems of production departments; oversees information and cost management; and develops, maintains and enables foundations processes and policies consistent with company interests. The Production Director is also responsible for both short and long term production strategy planning, ensuring that the most current and efficient production strategies are in place. Software skills and work flow familiarity requirements may range, depending on the job.
Production Managers supervise the production of a variety of projects. Their duties can include project planning, workflow management, vendor negotiations, print buying, cost control, quality control, press checks, and logistical coordination. They often supervise traffic coordinators and print buyers; may manage small design studio. Expertise in both analog and digital technologies, familiarity with design software applications and project management experience is required.
