Creativity Abounds at AX 2014
Last weekend Anime fans from all over the world flocked to Anime Expo 2014 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This exciting event is hosted by SPJA otherwise known as the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation which is a non-profit organization dedicated to popularizing the unique and deep culture that surrounds Japanese animation. Since Platt College is a digital media design college, events like this are a great opportunity to explore and learn more about different elements of the arts community.
Some of the many things to do at the Anime Expo range from concerts, panels, the artist alley, masquerade, exhibits, gaming and so much more! If you’re a fan of Anime the AX 2014 event is the place to be! Platt College’s Career Services Rep, Harry Chang attended the Expo last weekend and shared his thoughts about the event with us.
“Most of our student body is very interested in anime and some of their design work is heavily influenced by Japanese animation. Some of the biggest influencers of Japanese animation were at the Anime Expo showcasing some of their latest releases and upcoming projects. A few of the gaming companies such as Namco Bandai, Atlus, and Aksys were there to show off some of their anime based fighting games.
Cosplay is also one of the main attractions at Anime Expo, in fact I think their cosplay population is just as big if not bigger and crazier than San Diego Comic Con. I highly encourage Platt students to attend AX, to keep up with the trend and most importantly network with the people that want to be. Just walking around the convention floor I got to meet the creator of the Mega Man series and a few other notables within the anime/gaming industry.”

Harry also took many great photos of the events festivities that we have shared below. Be sure to check them out! It looks like the event was a lot of fun and hopefully some of our students may attend future Expo’s to find some creative inspiration!
