On March 15, 2011, Platt College San Diego students were given the exclusive opportunity to embark on another incredible journey. Last time the journey took them to the land of Tron: Legacy. This time, our students were immersed in the world of DC Universe Online.
Presented by the kind folks at Sony Online Entertainment, the Art & Design of DC Universe Online presentation was not to be missed. Visual Director, Mat Broome gave a digital guided tour of what it took to create an immersive massive multiplayer online title that lived up to the DC Comics brand. The presentation showcased various concept sketches of what Metropolis would look like in a game environment versus the comic form. Broome explained that the world they created had never really been shown in comics. So the task was to design specific details of everything in the city, from railways, government buildings to a simple burger shack.
Concept sketches of Jim Lee’s vision of the characters were shown for the first time to the public, with two amazing cinematic trailers, developed by Blur Studios, shown to cap the event off. Did we mention giveaways were handed out at the end of this event?
Platt College San Diego would like to thank Sony Online Entertainment for the exciting behind-the-scenes look at the making of DC Universe Online.
