When you live and breathe design, one of the best things about the holiday season is festive holiday fonts! There are about a metric ton of them out there, too. Here are our favorite festive free holiday fonts, so you can get your holiday projects and cards working in time to beat Old Saint Nick to the punch.
Beyond Wonderland
Created by Chris Hanson, Beyond Wonderland is free for both personal and commercial use with credit to the creator. This font in TTF format has a quirky, dark, Gothic-style look and the decorative feel of calligraphy. It doesn’t support accented vowels, but it’s a great look, especially for edgier projects.
Santa’s Sleigh
Santa’s Sleigh was created by HypoType and is free for any use. All three versions are in TTF format. This font has a more retro, classy feel to it and might be useful all year long for other projects.
One Starry Night
If you’re looking for free holiday fonts One Starry Night by Brittney Murphy Design will pop up a lot. It’s probably so popular because it’s fun, and offers a sweet sense of hand lettering appeal. It’s a thin enough typeface to avoid feeling clunky or overwhelming, and its loops and swirls are airy and energetic. This font is free for personal and non-profit use only, but commercial use only costs $5.
Candy Cane
Ready to go totally overboard with Michel Bujardet’s Candy Cane? For those relatives who collect Precious Moments figurines and can’t get enough of Christmas, no matter what time of year it is, some cards or decorations with Candy Cane font are ideal. Christmas spirit pretty much oozes from this decorative font which is free for personal use. It even comes complete with numbers and punctuation.
Chopin Script
Chopin Script is a classic script font perfect for the designs of the holiday season. Created by Typographer Mediengestaltung, Chopin Script pairs slim, delicate letters and subtle accent lines. Together these details create a very sophisticated looking typeface that is ideal for many holiday designs (and useful for other occasions over the course of the year, too).
The Gingerbread House
This is another less traditional, slightly edgier looking typeface with a Tim Burton/Nightmare Before Christmas feel to it. The Gingerbread House by Chris Hansen is a decorative serif with a somewhat creepy, yet still sweet, vibe.
St. Nicholas
This font by The Scriptorium provides a more subtle, understated look while still clearly communicating the winter feeling you’re looking for during the holiday season. This is a typeface with a lot of texture and depth, perfect for contrasting with color images.
Christmas/Flakes Font
And now, the opposite of subtle: ornamental typeface adorned with snowflakes. Sometimes you just need something that screams holidays, Christmas, or winter, and when you do, you can rely upon this typeface. It’s suitable for PC and Mac, and free for commercial use.
