Best of San Diego & Awards Gala Event
Every year San Diego filmmakers team up with other local talent to create a short film in just 48 hours! On top of creating a film in such a short time frame, all of the films had to include the same 3 elements: marshmallows as a prop, a character with the name John or Joyce Jansen, and the line of dialogue, “I saw one of those yesterday.” It was amusing to see all the clever ways each team incorporated these elements.

This fun and inspiring event has been going on for more than 10 years and we enjoy seeing our students and faculty getting involved in our local film community. This year our Social Media Coordinator Natasha Englehardt had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Best of Screening & Awards show held at Reading Cinemas in downtown San Diego. At the awards show they showcased 13 of the best submissions from the 48 Hour Film Project this year.
One of the short films that made it into the top 13 this year was a short film called The Teleporter by Real Good Films. The producer for this film project was one of our very talented video production teachers, Jodi Cilley. The Teleporter is a moving story about a man who is left alone and confused after the woman of his dreams mysteriously disappears, leading him to teleport all over the world with a magical device in hopes of finding her again. It was also nominated in the category for Best Use of a GoPro Camera! You can watch the film for yourself through the link below.

Another short film that was included in the awards show was team Mercury Cinema’s, Bunney, about a reclusive woman who is encouraged by friends and family to undergo a personality transplant, with some interesting results.

For this particular 48 Hour Film Project, Platt College alumni Jacob Roark was nominated for his contributions to the film as Producer and Director of Photography in the category for Best Cinematography. It’s always exciting to see our alumni being recognized for their hard work. Watch the whole film through the link below!
