Today Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream announced it has awarded Chris Bolor and Victor Silva with scholarships for their winning artwork that will be featured in a new mural located at Hawaiian Shaved Ice, 710 Ventura Pl. in Mission Beach. In addition to beautifying Mission Beach, the mural will alert hungry beachgoers that ice cream snacks are available nearby.
Chris Bolor’s mural design was selected out of several submitted by his peers at Platt (Media Arts) College San Diego. Bolor is 19 years old and is working toward a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts (emphasis in 3D Animation) Degree. He plans to graduate in November 2007. Bolor’s design incorporates the playfulness of summer fun on the beach, a rollercoaster because of its proximity to Belmont Park, NESTLE® ice cream treats, and bright vivid colors that are sure to liven up the storefront of Hawaiian Shaved Ice.
Victor Silva will be painting the mural alongside Bolor. Silva is a second year student at Platt College working toward a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts (emphasis in 3D Animation) Degree and aspires to work for Disney.
“We were extremely impressed by the creativity that went into each submission by the Platt College students,” said Diane McIntyre, Sr. Public Relations Manager of Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream. “It was a challenge to select a winner, but we chose Bolor’s work for its vibrancy and beautiful tie-in to Mission Beach. We congratulate these talented students and wish them the best of luck in their future careers!”
