Well, another year has come to an end and while many are happy to say goodbye to the year 2016, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the amazing designs created by our students and alumni throughout the year. We’re counting down the Top 20 Student & Alumni Creations of 2016 based off of likes via our Instagram profile. If you’re not following us on Instagram already, you should be and while you’re at it, check out the accounts from our students and alumni as well. Many of them produce amazing creative content regularly.
#1 – Coming in at number 1 is a logo design by Platt College student Jon Koop. He created this fun logo for a UI/UX kit project he was working on. You can see more from him on his Instagram @merchdown. Nice work Jon!
#2 – It seems like 2016 was the year for logo design. Next on our list is a logo redesign for Underbelly from Platt student Zibby Silva. To see more from her be sure to check out her Instagram account @moxystudios she made to showcase all her design work.
#3 – Platt College student Ryan Burneo designed this creative event poster in his Term 3, Graphic Design & Advertising For Social Media class. Excellent work Ryan! Check out more on his Instagram @ryanburneo.
#4 – Our first alumni creation to show up on our list is this Stunning Vintage Stamp Design brought to life in Adobe Illustrator by Jarod Octon. He was inspired by The Great Space Race of the 60’s. Check out more of his awesome creations @octonoriginals.
#5 – Graphic Design student Ada Herrera comes in at number 5 with this fun Trader Joe’s packaging project. This assignment is part of our Term 3 Graphic Design & Advertising for Social Media class. Students are asked to redesign a product package, as well as promote the item on Instagram using creative photography. See more at @adaherreradesigns!
#6 – Our only photography piece to make the list this year is this magical shot by Platt College student Yoshiyuki Matsui. This was during his Term 1 photography classes field trip to Balboa Park.
#7 – Platt Teacher & Alumni Michael Fugoso was featured on the front page of the San Diego Downtown News last year. His donut and San Diego city skyline mixed media piece were done for a collaboration with the Donut Bar in downtown. Check out more work from him on Instagram via his profile @fugstrator.
#8 – This is appearance number two on our list for Platt Alumni, Jarod Octon. He created this fun taco character in honor of #NationalTacoDay. Clearly a day worth celebrating here in San Diego!
#9 – Next up is this project from Graphic Design student, Jamir Grigsby. He did a beautiful job designing this product packaging for Goyard ties. This was the final project for his Term 3 Graphic Design & Advertising For Social Media class. Stop by his Instagram for more at @kosherlifemir!
#10 – Our 3rd product design project to make the list comes to us thanks to Graphic Design student Emily Oshiro-Neypes Castrence. We love the elegant look of Emily’s Too Faced Cosmetics Eye Shadow Pallet. Nice work @qtmle!
#11 – This epic illustration was created by Platt Alumni, Austin Millsap. You can check out more of his work, including this design on a t-shirt, via his Instagram @asapcreative.
#12 – A second appearance on our list from Graphic Design student Jon Koop. He has been using his Instagram profile to share a lot of awesome logo and icon projects catering towards musicians lately.
#13 – Graphic Design student Jonelle Crowder contributed this super cute Princess Leia illustration to a Star Wars block party hosted by our neighbors at the College Avenue Baptist Church last year. Sadly we would be saying goodbye to icon Carrie Fisher last year, which makes this tribute bittersweet. Check out more work from Jonelle on Instagram @gory_girl_. RIP Princess.
#14 – This refreshing product package redesign was created by Platt College student Naomi Rodriguez. Coco Rico is her favorite soda and she feels the original label doesn’t do the delicious drink much justice. With her new design she wanted to give a sense of elegance, paradise, and refreshment. Mission accomplished Naomi!
#15 -Graphic Design student Dulce Ramos has an adorable Instagram account filled with tons of her illustration work. Check out more of her creations over at @candiesketch.
#16 – Another Beautiful illustration to make our list was created by 3D Animation student Alex Campbell. She has a talent for 2D and 3D designs that you should definitely admire on her Instagram profile @alexcampbelldesign.
#17 – We are so blessed to call San Diego our home! This beautiful Typography was created by Platt Teacher & Alumni, Melissa Cabral. Check out her Instagram @puchi_melissa for more inspiring hand drawn creations.
#18 – Next up is our only video project to make the list this year. Recent graduate, Seita Ohama, put together this impressive visual effects demo reel to showcase the skills he learned while studying here at Platt. Programs like Adobe Premiere and After Effects were used to showcase compositing, roto paint and other vfx techniques. See more of his work here: @seita_vfx
#19 – We love this poster Platt College student Mike Arellano designed to show his love for our school. Happy to see some of our school pride made it onto the list.
#20 – Our final student creation to make it onto our list is this hilariously awesome mashup of Harley Quinn meets Pikachu. It was created in Term 1 by Graphic Design student Jesse Partida. More of his work can be seen here: @xxinkoffuryxx
