Happy New Year and congratulations to all of the students who made it into the Top 20 Student and Alumni Creations of 2014!
#1 – Platt College student Michael Fugoso not only helped organize the Star Wars art event held last summer but also participated as an artist himself. This awesome Star Wars piece was created by him using Adobe Illustrator. He told us this artwork was inspired by some cool techniques he learned from the Musketon workshop we hosted back in May. Congrats on having the #1 design for 2014 with over 100 likes Michael! If you like this design, be sure to check out more work from him on his Behance Portfolio.
#2 – Platt College student Jazmin Castillo created an amazing collection of Pokemon themed tattoo designs last year! Her early inspirations for drawing involved the world of Pokemon and her most recent inspirations are traditional tattoos, so she decided to combine the two. You can stay updated on all her awesome Pokemon creations through her Facebook page the Pokemon Tattoo Design Project.
#3 – Platt College alumni Juan Fernando Garcia is an extremely talented illustrator who was also a participating artist at several of our events last year. He has worked for companies like Hasbro, Square Enix and Wonka. Which is not surprising considering his unique and fun style of art. You can view more of his awesome work on his website http://www.blackbat.us/.
#4 – Platt College 3D Animation alumni and current 3D teacher, Mike Smith, has modeled this amazing 3D character called Algol. The concept is that he’s a genie (Djinn). Djinn are fire spirits from Arabic mythology so he made his hands burned black and his feet and horns are made of molten brass. As he was painting the glowing tattoos he realized they looked sort of astrological or celestial so he looked up arabic star names and found one called “Algol” which means “The Ghoul.” Mike imagined Algol meditating as he waits for thousands of years for someone to rub his lamp so he put candles on his head to give the look that he sits still for long periods of time. Excellent work Mike!
#5 – Platt College alumni Amber Bouley has an incredible talent when it comes to drawing. The majority of her drawings are inspired by different Disney characters and movies. This particular sketch is a mash-up of Stitch & Jack Skellington from a Nightmare Before Christmas. Be sure to follow her work on Instagram for more inspiring drawings. Awesome job Amber!
#6 – Platt College student Kyrsa Dunnihoo created this amazing digital painting to use for one of her class projects. You can view more on this project and other designs on her Behance Portfolio. Great work Kyrsa!

You can check out more work from Jorge on his Behance Portfolio. Nice work!
#8 – Who remembers when you could watch Captain EO in 3D at Disneyland? Did you know it was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and executive produced by George Lucas? The 3D film was shown at Disney theme parks from 1986 through 1996 and returned to the Disney Parks in 2010, as a tribute after Michael Jackson’s death. Platt College alumni Juan Fernando Garcia made this excellent Captain EO illustration as tribute to the Michael Jackson 3D film. This is the second piece from Juan that made it into our top 20! Nice work Juan!
#9 – Platt College Graphic Design student Kyrsa Dunnihoo redesigned the cover for Miyazaki’s Spirited Away.
