October is well known for Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Halloween, and shorter days. But it is also National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). Hoping to educate people about Cyber Security, the Department of Homeland Security established NCSAM in 2004. Naturally Cyber Security is mysterious and ambiguous. We do not have a degree for Cyber Security at Platt College San Diego, however it’s important in our industry to take it serious, some would say vital. There are a number of resources available so it is not difficult to educate yourself and establish safe and effective practices to mitigate threats.
A number of tools are available to help you to safeguard you and your family online. At the very least you should have antivirus, but you can also look into protection for your phone and a firewall for your home network. Subscribing to and reviewing security blogs with explanations and advice from trusted sources can also be beneficial. An uneducated target is a likely victim.
